Brakes Pt:2

Out with the old, in with the new.

The pads and rotors that come with the car were starting to squeak, after the year and a half of abuse I'd given them, I' wasn't surprised.

When I was deciding on the best way to update my brakes I knew I should also increase the size of my pads and rotors as well as
getting some track oriented pads and rotors.

A few options were considered, there is an amazing array of brake packages for the Miata, big front brake kits, sport brakes, all around big brake kits, the list goes on and on.

I wanted the simplicity and cheapness of staying OEM, so a stop by a salvaging yard meant I had some 94-97 caliper brackets, and some Hawk HPS, Centric cross hatched rotors, and ATE Super Blue meant I had some quality parts to put in them. Larger rotors, larger pads, brake ducting, high quality fluid, and a proportioning valve, the package was complete as far as I was concerned. Oddly enough the previous owner had already upgraded the front, but not rear to 94-97.

I'm amazed with the beauty of Miatas constantly. For my larger brakes all I needed was some junk yard brackets. No grinding, no bending, no Frankenstein setups, just put your old calipers on new brackets and go. It was a standard brake job with the exception of two extra bolts on each side in the rear.

Everything will be buttoned up tomorrow and ready for a shakedown over the weekends autocross events #4-5. I'll report back.
